Chesapeake Hospitality Gives Generously

“At Chesapeake Hospitality, we strive to ensure that a culture of service to others is evident at each one of our hotels…that our employees live it, and that guests who walk through our doors feel it: the joy of giving to others,” says Chesapeake Hospitality Director of Culture & Communication Jane McCaul. “And one of our favorite ways of serving others is by supporting Give Kids The World Village.”

Since 2011, under McCaul’s servant leadership, Chesapeake Hospitality has conducted year-long fundraising for the Village at its hotel properties, each of whom have come up with unique ways to support the cause. In 2019, fundraising activities were highlighted by the company’s 3rd Annual Happiness Inspires Hope bike race and Inaugural Crab Feast. After a day of exercising, it was time to relax and have fun on the grounds of the Holiday Inn Columbia East-Jessup, where more than 100 guests enjoyed “crabs, beer, football, and raising money for Give Kids The World. Best. Sunday. Ever!” according to Chesapeake Hospitality Manager of eCommerce and Social Media Caitlin Sims.

The myriad of other fundraising events and activities conducted by Chesapeake include the company’s Jeans Friday, when associates pay $5 to wear jeans and a button that says, “I wear jeans for GKTW,” and its Virtual “Walk” to the Village from Chesapeake’s Wyndham Gettysburg and Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg properties – in which associates walk during their lunch hour to raise funds for the Village. Participants are currently approximately 120 miles into their 944-mile walk.

In addition to raising funds for GKTW, Chesapeake Hospitality employees have donated countless hours volunteering at the Village. Every year, managers at each of the company’s properties select one ambassador with a desire to give back to enjoy a group volunteer experience helping to spread joy in the place Where Happiness Inspires Hope. Donte Thomas, the Holiday Inn Columbia East-Jessup’s ambassador in 2019, said of his experience, “It was a humbling and heartwarming experience. When the kids are at the Village, they do not have a care in the world; you could not even tell that they have been battling a life-threatening illness. If you ever have the chance to volunteer there, you will not regret it.”

Thank you to Chesapeake Hospitality for its generous support for Give Kids The World Village!
